EF’s prime location secures Moorabbin Aviation Services
The reputation that Essendon Fields Airport has for being a leader in aviation services in Melbourne has been further enhanced by the addition of Moorabbin Aviation Services (MAS) as a new tenant.
Moorabbin Aviation Services (MAS) have moved into Suite 3, 230 Wirraway Rd on a 5 year leasing deal. The art deco building was originally constructed for Australian National Airways in 1936 and is one of the airport’s most historic buildings.
MAS will provide advanced flight training at its new base at Essendon Fields. This will include multi-crew courses and instructor training, as well as initial and recurrent training on aircraft such as the Cessna Citation, DC-3, Beechcraft King Air B200, C90 and Piper Chieftain.
“We decided to move to Essendon Fields because it provides a central location for the Melbourne metropolitan area in conjunction with close proximity to Melbourne Airport for international and interstate customers,’’ said Darron Hurley, CEO and Head of Operations at MAS.
“Essendon Fields offers a vibrant environment based in its own right and has a great aviation history. We will be using the relocation to EF to help propel the expansion for our current operations, which are run from both Moorabbin and Mangalore Airports,’’ he said.
MAS have over 50 employees, and will operate a small core of specialists out of Essendon Fields.
For Deputy Head of Operations, Rod Jouning, it is also a return to an important part of his own history.
“I learned to fly at Essendon (Essendon Flying School) 45 years ago, so it’s great to have a base here now at Essendon Fields. Today Essendon Fields provides a gateway to aviation domestically. It’s the link between greater Melbourne and regional Victoria, through charter aircraft and regional airlines. MAS will further enhance that reputation by providing specialist flight training,’’ Mr Jouning said.
“We believe that Essendon Fields provides the opportunity to help grow our business while remaining central in Melbourne,’’ finished Mr Hurley.
