ESSENDON FIELDS KING ISLAND GOLF CLASSIC 2020

A CHARITY GOLF WEEKEND THAT MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE FOR GOLFERS AND KIDS

Essendon Fields and Air Adventure are pleased to announce details of the 2020 Golf Classic to be held again on two of King Island’s most prestigious golf courses, Cape Wickham and Ocean Dunes on 22 and 23 February.

With both courses consistently rated in Australia’s top bucket-list golf destinations, this is a great way to celebrate some of the best links golf experiences in Australia while also raising funds for Make-A-Wish Australia.

Essendon Fields and Air Adventure created this event to offer a special experience for golf lovers, highlighting the ease of flying to Australia’s best courses direct from Melbourne’s first airport, whilst also providing much-needed funds to Make-A-Wish. With a comfortable and convenient 45-minute flight direct from Essendon Fields Airport to King Island the weekend includes overnight accommodation, Island transfers and a group dinner for all participants.

On the weekend, golfers play 18 holes at the Ocean Dunes course on Saturday, followed by another 18 holes at Cape Wickham on Sunday, before an awards ceremony and transfers to King Island Airport for a direct flight back to Essendon Fields. Throughout the trip, participants enjoy the added benefit of no queues for flights, no baggage hassles and room to bring their own clubs.

Since the first Essendon Fields Golf Classic in 2018, more than $33,000 has been raised to help Make-A-Wish grant extraordinary wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.

Make-A-Wish CEO Sally Bateman is again grateful to be the charity partner for the 2020 Essendon Fields Golf Classic.

“A big thank you to Air Adventure, Essendon Fields and all the golfers who attended the Essendon Fields King Island Classic over the past two years. We are so looking forward to the 2020 Golf Classic. Because of support like this event, over 10,000 life-changing wishes have been granted in Australia since 1985 and we are one step closer to achieving our vision and making the wish of every child with a critical illness come true,’’ she said.

“Thank you for helping us make a lasting impact. We are so excited to see you all in 2020 to help make more wishes come true.’’

Proceeds from this year’s event supported a number of children in need of a wish, including 10 year old Gaiba-Jean, whose wish to see dolphins and go swimming with them was granted in May 2019.

Make-A-Wish was able to pay for Gaiba-Jean to travel to the Gold Coast to realise her wish at Sea World. She also visited Movie World and Dreamworld for a chance to have much needed fun with her family.

Essendon Fields is delighted to formally launch the 2020 Golf Classic.

“Essendon Fields values the contribution that its business partners like Air Adventure and its sponsors make to ensure the Golf Classic is so successful. We are one big community at Essendon Fields and that shows in events like this,’’ said Nadia Salajic, Marketing Manager, Essendon Fields.

“Essendon Fields Airport offers regular services that fly directly to King Island and it is one of our most important aviation markets. We know there are many reasons to visit King Island and playing golf on magnificent courses is just one of them, but to enjoy playing golf while supporting an event that raises so much money for Make-A-Wish is extra special,’’ she said.
