OVERVIEW
As our precinct grows, we’re taking a proactive, long-term approach to ensure Essendon Fields remains a safe, accessible and well managed environment for everyone who works, visits and travels through the area.
As part of this commitment, we’re undertaking projects to improve road safety, traffic movement and parking availability across the precinct.
Exciting new property developments are creating hundreds of additional jobs in the local area, and also increasing demand on our pedestrian crossings and road networks. Parking demand also continues to increase and be used in different ways by employees, customers, visitors and tenants.
Each year, our annual tenant survey includes a dedicated series of questions on parking needs, preferences and experiences. This valuable feedback, combined with data analysis and expert advice, is directly shaping our precinct parking strategy. This strategy focuses on mapping areas of importance, better utilising existing parking spaces, improving parking management systems, and, over the longer term, increasing parking supply to meet future demand.

PEDESTRIAN CROSSING SAFETY UPGRADE
To improve pedestrian safety, visibility and accessibility on English Street, Essendon Fields is planning to upgrade the existing zebra crossing on the western side of the English Street roundabout, between Hyatt Place Melbourne Essendon Fields and 6 English Street.
The new signalised pedestrian crossing will provide a safer and more formalised connection between key destinations and support safer movement as activity across the precinct continues to grow.
SCOPE
The project includes the removal of the existing zebra crossing and installation of a new signalised pedestrian crossing, upgraded footpaths, pavement and kerb improvements, line marking, traffic signal works and associated civil works.
LOCATION
Works will take place on the western side of the English Street roundabout, between Hyatt Place Melbourne Essendon Fields and 6 English Street.
TIMING
Works are currently scheduled to commence on 7 October 2026, subject to relevant approvals and weather conditions. The expected construction period is approximately six to eight weeks.
- 7 October 2026: Site establishment and construction commencement
- October to November 2026: Traffic signal, pavement, kerb and footpath works
- Late November 2026: Construction works scheduled for completion
ACCESS
English Street is a key access point into Essendon Fields, and we understand the importance of maintaining safe and reliable movement for tenants, visitors and the wider community.
While most works are expected to take place off the roadway, some minor disruptions may occur during the program. Works will be carefully planned and managed to minimise impacts, with appropriate traffic management in place to support the safe movement of pedestrians, cyclists and road users throughout construction.

NEXT STEPS
Essendon Fields will confirm construction dates and traffic management arrangements before works commence, and will continue to provide updates as works progress.
ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
Essendon Fields is continuing a staged program of traffic and pedestrian safety improvements across the precinct, informed by site observations, tenant and community feedback, and the completed Road Safety Review.
The program is designed to improve pedestrian accessibility, support safer vehicle movement, enhance visibility and wayfinding, and provide a more consistent road environment across key areas of the precinct.
COMPLETED WORKS
Stage 1 has now been completed and included rectification of footpath tactiles, upgrades to signage and line marking, and minor traffic calming measures including speed humps.
CURRENT AND UPCOMING SCOPE
Planning is underway for Stage 2, which is expected to involve more significant civil infrastructure works to further enhance safety and traffic flow. This may include new wombat crossings at key pedestrian locations and assessment of potential roundabout installations at high-traffic intersections.
TIMING
Additional line marking improvements are scheduled for the Spring/Summer period, when warmer weather conditions are more suitable for these works.
ACCESS
Some temporary traffic or access changes may be required as works are delivered, details of affected areas will be communicated once confirmed.
NEXT STEPS
Essendon Fields will continue to finalise design, approvals and delivery timing for the next stage of works, and will provide updates before any works that may affect road access, pedestrian movement or parking availability.
