Sharp Airlines brings back Melbourne-King Island flights for summer
Updated 15 July 2026
Essendon Fields Airport welcomes the announcement that seasonal passenger services between Melbourne (Essendon Fields) and King Island will return for the 2026–27 summer period.
The reinstated services, to be operated by Sharp Airlines, will run from 1 October 2026 through to the end of April 2027, supported by the Tasmanian Government to ensure continued connectivity during the island’s peak tourism season.
The route was previously suspended in May 2026 due to commercial viability challenges. The seasonal return of services will provide renewed access for visitors, residents, and businesses, supporting tourism and regional economic activity across both Victoria and King Island.
Sharp Airlines encourages travellers to book early, as forward bookings provide valuable information that helps determine future capacity requirements throughout the season.
- Services commence: 1 October 2026
- Operating until: 30 April 2027
- Frequency: Building to up to six return services per week across the season
- Fares from: $259 (incl. GST) one way
Bookings for the summer Melbourne (Essendon) – King Island schedule are now available at sharpairlines.com.au.
Essendon Fields Airport remains committed to supporting regional aviation connectivity and looks forward to welcoming the return of this important service.
