Update – June 2026

Following the earlier suspension of services, seasonal passenger flights between Essendon Fields Airport and King Island are expected to return for the upcoming summer period.

Sharp Airlines, with support from the Tasmanian Government, is planning to operate services from October 2026 through to April 2027, with schedules currently being finalised.

After more than 11 years servicing King Island from Melbourne, Sharp Airlines has made the difficult decision to suspend its regular passenger flights between Melbourne (Essendon Fields) and King Island, effective 2 May 2026.

Despite Sharp Airlines’ strong commitment to serving King Island and the valuable short-term assistance provided by the Tasmanian Government, it is no longer sustainable for Sharp Airlines to maintain services on this route without Government support and/or Industry support.

Sharp Airlines and Essendon Fields Airport are immensely grateful to passengers and the community that utilised these services over the years.

Existing Essendon Fields Airport connections by Sharp Airlines to Flinders Island remain unchanged.
