Niddrie Gymnastics shows off talent at Aus Championships

Niddrie Gymnastics is one of Essendon Fields’ longest running tenants, operating out of Hangar 44 on Wirraway Road for almost a quarter of a century. Annually Niddrie Gymnastics encourages hundreds of children to learn and enjoy gymnastics, and at the same time fostering future champions.

Most recently, two of Niddrie Gymnastics most exciting young talents, 15-year old twins Eloise and Millie Moody, were chosen to represent Victoria at the Australian Championships on the Gold Coast. Head coach Natalie Roberts said everyone at Niddrie Gymnastics was extremely proud of the achievements of Eloise and Millie.

“Making the Victorian team was a big reward for the effort that the twins put in, training 18 hours per week in the lead up, including early mornings and after school. Both Eloise and Millie were selected for the Victorian team after three trial events, including the Victorian Championships,” she said.

“Eloise won the title of Victorian Champion on bars at this event. Eloise loves bars and Millie is our beam queen. The girls were on the Gold Coast training and competing over five days”.

The high ceilings and open space of Hangar 44 is the perfect setting for the sport of gymnastics and Niddrie Gymnastics 600+ athletes.

“The gymnasts that use our facility at Essendon Fields for classes range in age from 2 years to 18 years. We offer tumble time classes for pre-school aged gymnasts, as well as recreational gymnastics for children of all ages and abilities, both as an introduction to gymnastics and for general health and wellbeing for children,’’ Coach Natalie said

Essendon Fields CEO Brendan Pihan said it’s impressive how Niddrie Gymnastics demonstrates such a strong commitment to fostering community engagement in the local area.

“We are focused on building strong connections with our local community, and providing a facility in the heart of the local area where children to learn the important values of teamwork, staying active and perseverance is a good example of this. We’re proud of our continued commitment to supporting Niddrie Gym, and hearing about the incredible achievements being made by our local gymnasts on a national scale,” said Mr Pihan.

Niddrie Gymnastics organizes and participates in various community events throughout the year. They host open house sessions, demonstrations, and exhibitions where community members can witness the skills and talents of gymnasts. These events provide an opportunity for the club to showcase its achievements, build connections, and engage with the local community.

“Gymnastics Victoria congratulates Eloise and Millie for their efforts in representing their state at the recent 2023 Australian Championships on the Gold Coast,” said Gymnastics Victoria CEO Mr Simon Gadsden.

“Niddrie Gymnastics are a fantastic operator, creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive opportunity for children and young people of all ages, assisting them to become more physically active through participation in gymnastics,” Mr Gadsden finished.

Coach Natalie notes that the Moody sisters have been with the Club since they were 5 years old, completing over 10 years of training with Niddrie Gymnastics to date.

“Both girls did our club so proud over two days of competition in the Gold Coast, and although they didn’t make the podium, we are super proud of their efforts.’’
