Preparing For Take-Off
iFLY indoor skydiving tunnel is under construction and set to launch at Essendon Fields this August.
If you’ve travelled along the Tullamarine Freeway recently you may have noticed a new 18 metre tall tower emerging. But it’s not Essendon’s latest apartment building.
What’s inside is set to blow you away!
The $15 million structure will soon become iFLY, Melbourne’s first indoor skydiving centre, with construction of the remarkable engineering feat just weeks from completion.
The building houses a complex system using a vertical tunnel, which whips up wind from above, pushing it down the sides of the tower, before its channelled up out of the floor, and into the enclosed glass chamber.
Once operational this August, the specialist technology will create a stable, wall-to-wall cushion of air allowing a realistic and safe indoor skydiving experience, suitable for almost anyone including those in wheelchairs, and 3 year olds!
Also under construction is a viewing area for those not quite ready to spread their wings.
iFLY Melbourne is set to open late August 2019. For more info visit: https://www.iflyworld.com.au/locations/melbourne
