Enhancing wellness at Essendon Fields with Core Pharmacy

Spring has truly sprung and it’s a great excuse for everyone within Essendon Fields to refocus their attention onto their health and wellness. Health is defined as a state of being, and wellness as the state of living a healthy lifestyle. This topic is so varied and vast, and there are so many ways it could be tackled.

The team at Essendon Fields Central’s Core Pharmacy have joined us today to help drive that motivation and success, collating a number of supportive suggestions to help enhance the lifestyles of our community.

Michelle, Retail Manager at Core Pharmacy, believes that since we’re passed winter, it’s time for everyone working in the precinct to get out from their office environment regularly and go for a walk each day.

“Staff working in the precinct should try to get out during their breaks to enjoy the park-like surroundings at Essendon Fields,” she said.

Essendon Fields last year completed its ambitious target for planting 10,000 news trees throughout the precinct, choosing to extend its target to 15,000 as soon as practically achievable. Tree types were uniquely selected by award-winning landscapers Super Gardens, for their drought tolerance and efficient water use, as well as for being ornamental rather than fruit bearing to passively discourage wildlife in order to reduce the potential for bird strikes on airport. Three main types rule supreme with Pyrus Usseriensis, Pyrus Capital and Pyrus Chantilleer largely making up the 10,000 planted.

With these trees producing thousands of glorious spring blossoms that enhance the feeling of Spring in the Essendon Fields community, for hay fever sufferers, Michelle suggests it’s wise to check the pollen count each day.

“We recommend acute sufferers take a non-drowsy antihistamine or use anti-allergy eye drops or antihistamine nasal spray on days of high pollen counts. Chronic sufferers may need to use regular medication commencing at the start of spring.”

And the biggest secret to wellbeing at any time of year?

“Particularly as we emerge from winter when we might not have done as much exercise, is a well-balanced diet and regular exercise.’’

While Core Pharmacy is a small local business, their knowledge and extensive range of products is extensive, and their mission is to focus on the whole health of the community they serve.

“Our team of staff, who are all locals, are able to help support your whole health. We try to stock every product you could possibly need from a pharmacy, with a focus on supporting Australian made products which we source from small local manufacturers,” she said.

Occupying a prominent position in Melbourne’s North-West, Essendon Fields and thus Core Pharmacy sits within a fast growing catchment, with over 1.1 million people living within a 15minute drive time.

“When we think of access to health care, pharmacies are really the first point of contact for many patients that are looking for not only their pharmacy needs, but even just to navigate where do they want to go for help? Should I see the doctor? During the normal working day we’re presented with many minor diseases and ailments, from skin rashes, nausea and reflux to everyday colds, of which we can treat the vast majority. Anything more complex we will always refer to the Essendon Fields Medical Centre. We’ve also been able to expand vaccinations and are able to provide a service for both Flu and COVID-19 vaccines.”
