Get Ready for the 2025 King Island Classic

Essendon Fields and Air Adventure are proud to announce the launch of the 2025 Essendon Fields King Island Classic – the eighth time this unique event has been staged, in support of Make-A-Wish Australia which grants life-changing wishes to critically ill children across the country.

The event will be held across the weekend of 22-23 March 2025, offering golf lovers a dream weekend enjoying some of Australia’s best courses on King Island.  In its seven years the Classic has raised more than $165,000 for Make-A-Wish Australia.

The 40 minute flight from Essendon Fields Airport to King Island via airline partner Sharp Airlines departs on day one of the weekend, with players transferred to enjoy 18 holes at Ocean Dunes, designed by Graeme Grant and considered one of the most picturesque courses anywhere in Australia. Day two of the weekend sees players enjoy 18 holes at Cape Wickham, designed by Mike DeVries and Darius Oliver, a course which is ranked number three in Australia and number 24 in the world. Following presentations on Sunday where a range of prizes are awarded, players return to their aircraft for the 40 minute flight with Sharp Airlines back to Melbourne’s First Airport. All flights, accommodation, two incredible 18 hole courses on consecutive days, transfers and a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation are included in the ticket price, so all players will need to do is turn up and enjoy this magnificent golfing experience!

The King Island Classic was first launched by Essendon Fields and Air Adventure to give golf lovers the opportunity to enjoy an incredible golf experience and taste what the iconic King Island has to offer, all while supporting Make-A-Wish Australia, which gives very sick children and teenagers hope for the future. This annual event continues to support the community of King Island, who will welcome up to 100 players to the Island across the weekend, and throughout the year benefit from reliable and efficient connections to Melbourne via Sharp Airlines scheduled Metroliner services from Essendon Fields Airport. Sharp Airlines operate both flights and ground handling. The team ensure guests are welcomed at Essendon Fields Airport, are escorted onto the Metroliner aircraft for the short 40-minute flight to King Island, met upon arrival, and supported right back to Essendon Fields Airport at the end of the weekend.

Essendon Fields CEO Brendan Pihan, who has had the pleasure of participating in the event, urged golfers to sign up for the 2025 King Island Classic.

“This is a fantastic event on world-class golf courses.  You’ll enjoy stunning golf conditions just a short flight away from Melbourne, whilst doing something special for an important charity,” said Mr Pihan.
