Air Link takes 15-year lease extension at Essendon Fields
Air Link, a national flight charter, freight and logistics provider, along with partner operator AirMed, has significantly extended its lease of Hangar 85 at Essendon Fields Airport as the home base for its Victorian, Tasmanian and South Australian operations.
Moving to Essendon Fields in 2022, Air Link operate out of a 2,148 sqm facility located at 6 Bristol St, servicing clients throughout Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. The facility, Hangar 85, turns 80 this year and after a major $4million refurbishment completed in 2020, is ready to service the next century.
Matt Marais, Essendon Fields’ GM Aviation, said the significance of the lease renewal wasn’t just that it came so soon after committing to Essendon Fields in 2022, but the length of the new agreement, spanning 15 years.
“This signifies Air Link’s strong endorsement towards our Airport and wider general aviation offering. As a company with its own rich aviation history and sustained growth, we welcome Air Link as a long-term tenant of Essendon Fields Airport,’’ said Mr Marais.
Matthew Kline, Director of Air Link, said the company was excited to be extending its lease at Essendon Fields.
“Essendon Fields is the perfect southern Australian base for our company. We look forward to continuing to grow our business from Hangar 85 and engaging with all the other aviation tenants at the airport,’’ he said.
Since 2018 Air Link has expanded its operations to include four bases across the east coast of Australia with passenger lounge facilities in Melbourne (Essendon Fields), Sydney, Dubbo and Brisbane. Overall, the company operates a fleet of 67 aircraft including Cessna Citation Jet M2, CJ2, Cessna 510 Citation Mustang, Beechcraft King Air, Piper Chieftain and Cessna 310 types.
Mr Marais also congratulated Air Link on this month celebrating its 50th anniversary of serving the people of Dubbo and western NSW with vital air services. The company was first established in 1974 as an aircraft charter operator, but today Air Link has become an integral part of regional transportation across Australia.
