Healthy life starts with a focus on fitness

Located at 92 Bristol Street, Fitness Addix has been a part of Essendon Fields community for over 11 years. Owner Kelly Britter believes that we should all embrace the mentality that any ‘healthy life starts with you’.

“Over the last few years one of the biggest casualties was the impact on our fitness regimes as we were stuck at home or restrictions made it difficult to get to the gym or get outdoors to exercise,” says Kelly.

“Post-pandemic, we’re finding that people have really lost that motivation and that drive to feel better. We’re a very busy society and push our ‘time’ to the limit and often this results in lost focus on individual health.”

“This increases our individual risk to so many negative outcomes. What we’re missing is that when people dedicate more time to their physical and mental wellbeing it helps us ‘feel fit’, which means we feel more confident, strong, empowered, energised. These positive effects have a huge impact on us as individuals, but also as a community.’’

The good news for everyone working or regularly visiting Essendon Fields is that Fitness Addix ready to help. Offering a 24/7 gym facility, group training with different class available from strength classes, boxing, cardio, circuit style, HIIT sessions and more, they’re ready to help you once again find that motivation.

“We have 4 staff who are all passionate about delivering health and wellness services to the whole EF community,” Kelly said.

“Having grown up in Essendon I’ve found it’s a wonderful location to own a business and it’s great to be surrounded with so many companies and small businesses, who are all very supportive of one another.”

The gym even has its own specialised ‘Airspace’ room, which is full of amazing equipment for small group training that combines Personal Training sessions, technology and body scans.

Kelly’s top tips for getting back into a fitness routine are simple.

“No more excuses! No one is coming to help you so put yourself first and make time to feel good. Don’t over commit and start with small achievable sustainable goals, little ones that you are likely to stick to. This helps us feel successful rather than setting us up to fail,” she says.

“Also don’t compare yourself to anyone else. Being ‘fit’ looks very different on each and every person, so stay focussed on what is driving you and your reasons for making a healthy step forward”

She also suggests to just get out of bed a little earlier than you normally would as this helps you plan your day and sets you up for getting things done. It also gives you some time to yourself to really focus on what you love to do.

“My favourite quote is: ‘The greatest gift you can give your family is the healthiest version of yourself’. This sums up why we should put our mental and physical health at the forefront. You don’t need to be training seven days a week. You just need to move your body to release all those endorphins which make you feel great.’’
