346 Wirraway Road

UPDATE: 18 APR 2024, 3.00pm - OVERVIEW & ACCESS INFORMATION

Consistent with the approved 2013 Essendon Fields Master Plan, two new automotive dealerships are being developed at 346 Wirraway Road.  

Whilst we deliver these works, you may notice increased activity on the site, including increased noise from construction works. Measures have been put in place to minimise disruption to local businesses and neighboring residents, including implementing dust suppression strategies during the initial earthworks.  

To ensure the safety of road users and pedestrian during the project works, traffic conditions will be adjusted as follows: 

Throughout the construction period: Footpath access on the western side of the site will be closed, with access diversions clearly marked to ensure safe street crossing on St Johns Lane and Wirraway Road. Please refer to Figure 1 below. 

Electrical infrastructure works: Due to an unforeseen requirement to relocate electrical infrastructure located within the site, the West bound lane on a portion of St Johns Lane will be closed for approximately 3 weeks in April/May. Pedestrian access will be diverted, and vehicles exiting the eastern side of the Landrover/Volvo dealership and the adjacent car park will be detoured. Please refer to Figure 2 below.  

Initial site establishment phase: To accommodate construction deliveries for a period of approximately 2-3 days in May, traffic changes will be in place around the Wirraway Road northern roundabout. Please refer to Figure 3 below.

TIMING

Project works are scheduled to commence in March 2024 and complete in Q2 2025. 

LOCATION

The work will take place at 346 Wirraway Road, Essendon Fields (refer to plan above). 

SITE WORKING HOURS

Weekdays 7am - 5pm
Saturday 7am - 3pm

SITE ACCESS

To ensure the safety of contractors and road users, traffic access around the north of the site will be adjusted during various phases of work. The footpath around the site will be closed throughout the works to ensure pedestrian safety. Please refer to the plans for details.

MANAGING CONSTRUCTION

All projects undertaken at Essendon Fields are undertaken with strict safety and compliance measures, under a detailed Construction Environment Management Plan approved by the Airport Environment Officer, and include plans for:


  • public safety, amenity and site security

  • operating hours

  • noise and vibration controls

  • air and dust management

  • stormwater and sediment control

  • waste and materials reuse

  • traffic management (if required), and;

  • any conditions of the Planning Permit that applies to the development.
